Humanity Hospital Bankura

Community Hospital Network for the Poor

Under Humanity Trust

Executive summary

It is proposed to set up a Community Hospital Network wherein there would be one Hub hospital (with relatively advanced facilities) and a primary healthcare centers in each districts of West Bengal to provide a comprehensive health programme (preventive, curative, and rehabilitation), aimed at reaching target groups, by improving the access to basic health services. The existing Humanity Hospital under Humanity Trust in Hanspukur (Kolkata) can be the Hub with some equipment up-gradation.

The focus of this programme is to improve access to and affordability for medical and health care services for the poor and under privileged people across the State of West Bengal.

Humanity Hospital has been providing affordable primary healthcare services to low-income rural and underprivileged communities at Bankura in West Bengal. Through out-patient healthcare centre set-up in densely populated areas with insufficient quality healthcare facilities, we help the disadvantaged people live with better health and dignity.

Our organization has been effectively working to counter the staggering inadequacies in Indian healthcare sector. Our focus is on accessibility, availability and affordability and we have a unique and innovative service delivery model which is scalable and replicable. We have also adopted 'sustainable philanthropy' to ensure continuous service towards our communities while reducing our dependency on donors.

Started with one Hub centre in Bankura District Sonamukhi Block, we have grown to have 5 primary healthcare units - 15 in rural village in Bankura. They are equipped with General Medicine, Optometry, and Dentistry.

We are still looking to expand our reach and provide primary care to more needy communities. We need to set up Hospital and also ensure proper functioning of existing ones. The task at hand is huge and we require constant funding for purchasing medical equipment, hiring medical and non-medical staff, setting up infrastructure at the Hospital, purchasing medications etc. Thus, with a focus on effective medical services for our rural and underserved communities, we are seeking to connect and partner with benevolent and generous donors and funders.

A community Hospital Network can provide and ensure affordable access to primary healthcare services for the poor communities in Districts, while critical patients from the primary healthcare can be referred to the hub hospital in SONAMUKHI .Based on the vision of the program, the hospital network should:

  • Provide emergency services, treatment of common diseases and injuries, maternal and peri-natal healthcare, a 24 hour/day delivery service, emergency obstetric care, family planning service, immunization, tuberculosis control, child health services (including oral health services, accident prevention and rehabilitation, post trauma problems, operation services, chronic disease – diagnosis, control and referral, counseling and school health programme and preventive services) and outreach support such as seasonal RH camps at a community level;

  • Be initially run by 2 doctors, and 3 nurses in District Primary Healthcare centers (Phase 1)

  • Utilize the existing facility of the hub humanity hospital in Hanspukur and upgrade/install advance medical equipment like CT Scan, MRI machine

  • Provide nurses’ training (Phase 2), primarily aimed at training nurses from rural areas to provide primary healthcare and outreach services in local communities.

It’s very soon we are open a New 40 bed General Hospitai (11000 sqft) on this area, land is donated by local people (21600 sqft), for our need we have to purchase more land in future.
